Lots Happened/Happening!!!

Goodness! Last week was crazy! Last Sunday, I had a concert with the GDYO philharmonic orchestra at the Meyerson! It went really well! On Monday, I had quartet rehearsal with my quartet Bellissimi then followed by choir rehearsal with the Women's Youth Chorus of CCGD. Tuesday, I had All-region rehearsal. Wednesday, I had a violin private lesson. Thursday morning Bellissimi had another rehearsal then a gig at an art showing after school. Friday, I had another rehearsal with All-region. The conductor was amazing! Saturday, was completely filled with six hours of All-Region rehearsal! After, We had our concert and it didn't turn out too badly! It's always possible to do better! We only practiced the Elgar piece once before we performed it! Directly after the concert, my mom and I drove three hours (while speeding) to try to make it to my grandfather's birthday dinner in Lufkin, Texas. We ended up missing the dinner but my family had a nice get together when we got there. Both of my Aunts were there, my uncle, and cousin too. It was a good gathering. But the next day, Sunday, my mom and I had to drive back to Dallas in time to make another one of my rehearsals with the GDYO. Monday, yesterday, I had to wake up at five in the morning because my quartet, Bellissimi, had another gig at a breakfast gathering before school. After school I went to WYC choir rehearsal like every Monday night. And finally, tonight, I had a rather successful violin lesson in Plano!

Upcoming events!:

November 20th: WYC (Women's Youth Chorus) performance in Garland!

November 28th: New Conservatory of Dallas Symphony of Toys Concert in the afternoon and then the WYC performance in the evening, both of which are going to happen at the Meyerson!

December 1st: Waltz Orchestra is performing at Northpark Mall at 7:00 p.m.

December 5th: Bellissimi Quartet has a gig performing at the DAR meeting!

Music Vs. Math....

Have you ever wondered how two completely different subjects tend to interchange with each other? I was approached with this train of thought by my Algebra 2 teacher; "How does your school cluster have anything to do with math?"
I started to think in terms of music. I definitely have to count my measures to make sure I am in the right place. I also have to keep rhythm... and time!! That's it! The time signature at the beginning of every piece is a fraction!

Ex. This picture shows the time signature 4/4 or in some cases, C. This means that there are 4 quarter notes counted equally for each measure. This time signature is most commonly used.

Ex.This picture to the right shows a time signature refered to as 3/4 time. This means that there are 3quarter notes per measure. This time signature is commonly used for Waltz's.

Ex. This picture to the left is a fantastic example of 6/8 time. On the first row, it shows that 6/8 is made up of 6 eighth notes in each measure. Below the first line, the piture shows how these no can be shown in greater lengths by substituting 3 eighth notes by a dotted quarter note, which has the same amount of time as the 3 eighth notes, but is written for change in pattern. All of these levels hold an equal amount of time in each measure.

These examples could go on and on because of how many time signatures there are. With this, I have realized the connection between math and music. Without math, composers wouldn't be ablee to compose music in an orderly way.  And for some, like myself, we can't accomplish math homework without music!
